They might as well rename me Spiccoli. The irony of this label is apparent to my friends beyond the MPH program, who might well ascribe me with opposing labels (high achieving, if not the opposite of inebriated, anyway). Now that I have seen this I cannot unsee it, and that’s why I’m sharing it, because if I have to spend my whole day feeling uncomfortable about the capacity of people to be off-the-charts crazy then so do you. When I was in kindergarten or thereabouts I decided I was going to be a stripper. I think it’s because I saw an edited-for-TV version of Striptease which included Demi Moore making lots of money but excluded any coercive sex or mistreatment, and I probably wasn’t paying any attention to it anyway, and I thought, hey, lots of money for spinning around on a pole naked? I LOVE BEING NAKED! And I think I harboured that plan for years, and various other plans that relied on my ability to be attractive and scantily clad. Then, years later, I told my dad I wanted to be on The Price’s Right and be one of the girls who holds up blenders and new golf clubs while wearing an evening dress, and he said, “That means you’ll have to have sex with Bob Barker.”

When my mood is poor, I feel less satisfied by my appearance. Generally by the end of a stressful period (usually you can pinpoint this to the end of an academic semester) I feel frustrated by my hair, critical of my wardrobe, skeptical about my attractiveness to others, and sensitive about perceived and actual flaws, displeased by photos of myself.

As soon as my mood lifts I feel satisfied with everything again, which is why it’s curious when these clouds of self-criticism descend.

I can’t tell if this is an extension of the tendency to be more easily aggravated by physical discomforts when you’re already annoyed or if it’s some sort of gender-specific tendency, which seems possible. Responses from members of teams XY and XX requested.

To see what will run out first- the exam period, or the number of episodes of a TV show that you’ve been storing up for procrastination purposes during that exam period.

TV episodes are key for procrastinating: they take about forty minutes (refreshing like a power nap! And easier to slide into and out of than actual sleep), don’t require leaving the house, don’t involve intellectual engagement, and usually come in large enough batches to keep you satisfied for many days.

I finish tomorrow afternoon and last night I finished watching all the Dollhouse episodes from 1.7 (where it starts not sucking) onward. During paper-writing I worked through all of Castle. I am now out of TV that strikes my fancy, with one more day of studying to go.

It seems like a benefit that now I have nothing better to do than study, but in actuality I would really rather have something to watch then doing a blocked analysis of variance by hand.
